Like most Sundays, this morning I awoke and drowsily selected a mellow station on Pandora. A song came on that I didn’t recognize and I had to wake up to learn more because the song was really cool.  It was Ten Cent Pistol by The Black Keys

There’s nothing worse
In this world
Than payback from a
Jealous girl

That line in the song, set me thinking about how uncomfortable relationships are often turned into great storytelling. Pop culture is ripe with stories of jealousy, revenge, unrequited love and crazy people doing crazy things to grab someone’s attention! From the scary to the sublime.

Songs that immediately pop into mind are Elvis’ Suspicious MindsSunny Came Home by Shawn Colvin and Mr. Brightside by The Killers. I know there are a ton more.  On the big screen, Crazy, Stupid, Love is pulling a 76% over at Rotten Tomatoes right now.

On TV, there was an episode in Season 8 of Two and a Half Men where Charlie Sheen’s character realizes he has feelings for Rose (his stalker/neighbor), Charlie sets out to let her know and ends up catching a glimpse of her getting married. Turns out, the whole marriage was staged in front of an audience of mannequins to make Charlie jealous. YIKES!

Anyway, love can drive us to do some pretty crazy things - which brings me to my original formula: crazy + love = stories! What’s the craziest thing you or a friend have done to get someone’s attention?
